Post Office Bronze Sep 08
The Post Office Bronze is a plaque which was installed without permission in front of the Chief Post Office
building in Dunedin New Zealand. The plaque commemorates the Post Office Womans League, an organization which was
formed in 1946 by the wives of Post Office employees. The Womans League, was a charitable organization that met
once a week between 1946 and 1986. Formed under the conditions of strong community spirit which marked the
British empire during and directly after the war. The organization was disbanded, after steadily declining
membership, in 1986, but ultimately the result of the neo-liberal reforms instigated by the Labour government,
which turned the Post Office into New Zealand Post. As of December 2010 the plaque remains in place.
